Backend Engineer Java/Kotlin

Role description

We are looking for a Backend Engineer with solid experience in Java/Kotlin, Spring Boot and microservice architectures to support the development of a modern digital ecosystem. In this role, you will design, build and maintain scalable, cloud-ready microservices, deliver robust integrations and APIs, and ensure secure and reliable DevSecOps practices across the platform. You will work closely with domain experts and other stakeholders in a dynamic environment that requires the ability to handle shifting priorities.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain backend services using Java or Kotlin and the Spring Boot ecosystem.
• Build and evolve a scalable microservice landscape, including APIs and system integrations.
• Implement secure, cloud-ready microservices with focus on performance, reliability and maintainability.
• Configure and maintain CI/CD pipelines with appropriate security controls, automation and quality gates.
• Work with containerization (Docker) and orchestration (Kubernetes) for deployment and runtime operations.
• Evaluate, implement and improve logging, monitoring and observability tooling to ensure high availability.
• Collaborate with domain experts and product stakeholders to translate business needs into technical solutions.
• Contribute to architectural decisions and technical design in the backend and integration landscape.
• Produce clear and structured technical documentation for services, integrations and platform components.
• Actively contribute to continuous improvement, knowledge sharing and best practices in the team.

Requirements

• Professional experience working with Java or Kotlin and the Spring Boot ecosystem.
• Solid understanding of microservices, distributed systems, event-driven patterns and API design.
• Hands-on experience with CI/CD pipelines and related tooling.
• Experience with containerization (Docker) and orchestration (Kubernetes).
• Familiarity with at least one major cloud platform (AWS, Azure or GCP).
• Understanding of infrastructure-as-code concepts and practices.
• Ability to work with and implement logging, monitoring and observability tooling.
• Comfortable working in a dynamic, fast-paced environment with shifting priorities.
• Strong collaboration skills and experience working in cross-functional teams.
• Curious, proactive mindset and willingness to contribute beyond your core responsibilities when needed.

Meriting

• Experience working with or integrating low-code platforms.
• Experience from complex, distributed environments with many interacting services.
• Experience with DevSecOps practices and security by design in microservice architectures.

• Start: 2026-01-06
• Duration: Until 2027-01-07 (extension possible depending on future needs)

Location

• Location: Stockholm (hybrid, 2–3 days/week onsite)
