Role Summary
At Software Defined Scania, we are accelerating the shift from a traditional vehicle manufacturer to a software- and data-driven leader in sustainable transport.
We are now building new software teams focused on developing customer-facing vehicle applications that create clear, direct value for drivers and fleet operators. These applications will be built on our current vehicle platforms, while also preparing us for future software-defined vehicle architecture.
As Software Architect – Vehicle Applications, you will play a key role in shaping how our platforms, applications and customer needs connect - today and in the future.
This role is located in Södertälje, Sweden, and is part of a growing area where you will help build both the technical direction and the team capability from the ground up.
Job Responsibilities
In this role, you will:
- Take a leading technical role in shaping new customer-facing vehicle applications.
- Help build and guide a new software team working with AI- and data-enabled vehicle functionality.
- Define how applications should interact with existing vehicle platforms and future software-defined architectures.
- Work with current platforms in customer vehicles, including HPC-related environments, while preparing for future solutions.
- Use connected vehicle data, customer insights and business input to identify relevant functionality.
- Support faster, more iterative software development and shorter time-to-customer.
- Develop and guide applications across AAOS, Linux and QNX, spanning both real-time and high-performance environments.
- Work closely with HMI, infotainment, connectivity, vehicle systems and commercial stakeholders.
- Help ensure that what we build is not only technically strong, but also wanted, useful and value-creating for customers.
- Bring modern development methods while respecting the existing platforms and products our customers depend on.
Who You Are
You are a senior software engineer or architect who enjoys working where technology, product and customer value meet. You are motivated by building something new, but you also understand the importance of taking care of existing platforms and solutions.
You do not need everything to be fully defined before you act. You enjoy rolling up your sleeves, bringing structure where needed and helping set the way of working for a growing team.
We believe you have:
- Strong experience in embedded and/or automotive software development.
- Solid understanding of modern software platforms and architectures, such as Linux, QNX and Android Automotive/AAOS.
- Experience with customer-facing applications, vehicle applications or digital services.
- Understanding of data-driven development and an interest in how AI can support better customer value.
- Experience working in complex, cross-functional technical environments.
- Ability to guide technical direction and support less experienced colleagues.
- A practical mindset and interest in building new capabilities, not only following existing processes.
- Strong customer focus and curiosity about how vehicles are used in real life.
Fluency in English and Swedish is required, as the role includes collaboration with Swedish-speaking stakeholders and customer-related contexts. A willingness to develop Swedish skills is important.
A relevant academic degree, such as M.Sc. in Engineering, Computer Science or equivalent experience, is valued.
This Is Us
At Software Defined Scania, our mission is to safeguard Scania’s premium product value through software-driven functionality - ensuring the driver remains at the centre of everything we do.
We offer a dynamic, innovative and collaborative environment where you will:
- Play a leading role in shaping the future of driver experience in Scania’s software-defined products.
- Work alongside motivated and curious colleagues who live the Scania Way - with openness, respect and continuous improvement.
- Access cutting-edge labs, connected test vehicles and simulation environments.
- Be part of a growing team where you can influence both technology and ways of working.
- Help turn vehicle data and customer insight into functionality that drivers and fleet operators notice and value.
