About the RoleYou will step into a senior architectural role in a safety-critical embedded environment where early technical decisions have a major impact on platform reliability, scalability, and long-term maintainability. The work centers on avionics and autonomous embedded systems, with a strong focus on shaping firmware architecture, system partitioning, and integration strategy across complex software and hardware boundaries.
In this role, you will help assess feasibility, identify architectural risks early, and guide how core platform capabilities should evolve over time. You will work close to technical stakeholders and influence key decisions around mixed-criticality systems, mission computing integration, and fault-tolerant embedded design. Job Description- You will define and guide the architecture for embedded avionics software in a safety-critical context.
- You will evaluate technical feasibility, integration complexity, architectural risks, and development effort early in the project lifecycle.
- You will shape system partitioning and clarify firmware and software boundaries across the platform.
- You will provide architectural direction for RTOS-based embedded systems, firmware architecture, and BSP/HAL development.
- You will support design decisions for mixed-criticality systems, distributed embedded systems, and redundancy concepts.
- You will guide integration of Linux mission-computing capabilities with embedded platform components.
- You will influence strategies for secure boot, firmware updates, fault containment, scalability, and maintainability.
- You will contribute expertise around communication stacks and middleware such as CAN, CAN FD, MAVLink, DDS, ROS2, and Ethernet-based embedded networking.
- Previous lead architect role on at least a UAV autopilot or avionics controller.
- 12–18+ years of experience in avionics, UAVs, robotics, or other safety-critical embedded platforms.
- Deep expertise in RTOS-based embedded systems.
- Strong experience in firmware architecture and BSP/HAL development.
- Strong understanding of mixed-criticality systems.
- Experience with Linux mission-computing integration.
- Experience with distributed embedded systems and redundancy concepts.
- Knowledge of secure boot, firmware updates, and fault containment strategies.
- Strong experience with CAN, CAN FD, MAVLink, DDS, ROS2, and Ethernet-based embedded networking.
- Strong architectural judgement with the ability to assess feasibility, complexity, risks, and long-term platform strategy.
- Understanding of PX4 or ArduPilot ecosystem, UAV autopilot architectures, Linux mission computing integration, and hardware/software partitioning.
- DO-178C awareness.
- IEC 61508 or ISO 26262.
- PX4 or certifiable flight stack adaptations.
- Experience with high-reliability embedded Linux systems.
