Project assistant in intelligent aeroelastics and acoustics
Chalmers tekniska högskola
Systemutvecklare/Programmerare
- Omfattning: Heltid
- Varaktighet: 6 månader eller längre
- Anställningsform: Tillsvidare- eller tidsbegränsad
Beskrivning
Join us in pushing the boundaries of aeroelastics, aero‑vibro‑acoustics, and machine learning. As a Project Assistant in the Marine Technology division, you'll help develop fast, data‑driven methods to understand complex turbulent flows—work that directly supports safer, cleaner, and more efficient marine and vehicle technologies. If you enjoy advanced simulations, smart algorithms, and hands‑on collaboration with researchers and industry, this role puts you at the heart of real innovation.
About us
The Marine Technology division carries out fundamental and applied research to enable the development and improvement of marine technology, such as ships, subsea systems and renewable energy solutions. We support industry and societies world-wide with knowledge, understanding and solutions that minimize emissions from shipping, improve the life time and reduces maintenance need for equipment in the harsh ocean environment, and ensures safe operations. Our activities are related primarily to development and application of numerical modelling, e.g. CFD, FEA, FSI, optimization, ML, but we are also involved in both experiments and real life monitoring to support our findings.
Besides research, our division is also involved in education at Master's and doctoral level. We are involved in the master program Mobility Engineering (Naval Architecture – Marine Technology profile) and we are part of the Nordic Master in Maritime Engineering.
The research group consists of senior researchers, post-doc and PhD student. During the course of the project, supervision of master and bachelor thesis projects will be involved. Close communications with the Swedish marine industry will be conduced in a regular base.
About the research project
The project assistant position is proposed to investigate fundamental aero-vibro-acoustics and, furthermore, applied the developed tools to case studies of vehicles. The position is full-time temporary employment for 9 months. The main supervision and examination of the student will be provided by Chlamers, and co-supervision from Volvo Trucks.
Who we are looking for
The following requirements are mandatory:
- Fluent English language (both oral and written)
- Skills in computer programming (Python / Matlab)
- CAD and CAE tools
- Computational fluid dynamics (CFD)
- Finite element method (FEM)
It is a great advantage if you are available to start September 1st, 2026.
What will you do
- Develop numerical methods and simulation codes
- Work closely with researchers, engineers, and students
- Run and analyze CFD and FEM simulations
- Implement and test ML‑based prediction tools
- Process and visualize simulation and experimental data
- Contribute to reports, documentation, and presentations
- Support supervision of thesis students
- Participate in meetings with industrial partners
Contract terms
Temporary employment for nine months.
A valid residence permit must be presented by the start date, otherwise the offer may be withdrawn.
