Data Quality Test Engineer

You will help strengthen data quality across a portfolio of core data warehouses built on Snowflake and dbt. The environment supports business-critical data in areas such as sales, orders, inventory, manufacturing, sustainability, quality, and environmental reporting, where downstream consumers depend on stable and well-understood data.

The main challenge is twofold: improve confidence in a recently upgraded warehouse where data quality issues have affected downstream systems, and create a stronger regression safety net for future changes in other warehouses. In this role, you focus on analysis, investigation, and test design rather than implementation. You turn downstream expectations into clear data contracts and test specifications that the Data Products team can implement directly in the warehouse dbt projects.

You will work closely with data engineers, analytics engineers, data product managers, subject-matter experts, and downstream consumers to build a clear picture of usage, risks, and quality gaps. • You will map how data from SDW, OIDW, MDW, and SQE is used by core downstream systems and identify which tables, columns, refresh patterns, and dependencies matter most.
• You will lead discovery sessions and stakeholder conversations with technical and semi-technical data consumers to make implicit expectations explicit.
• You will define data contracts per warehouse that describe the guarantees each warehouse should provide to its consumers.
• You will design prioritized test case catalogs for dbt projects, including concrete specifications for tables, columns, rules, severity, and affected consumers.
• You will identify risks, regression patterns, coverage gaps, and cross-warehouse issues, with extra focus on the types of problems that can reappear when warehouses evolve.
• You will hand over clear test specifications and supporting documentation to the Data Products team, who will implement the tests in the warehouse repositories.
• You will focus on warehouse-side validation and quality guardrails before data reaches downstream consumers, without changing downstream application test suites.

• 3–8 years of experience in data quality, data testing, or data analytics engineering roles
• Advanced SQL on Snowflake
• Hands-on experience with dbt, including reading and tracing lineage across dbt models, and authoring dbt tests
• Experience tracing data lineage across multi-hop pipelines
• Conceptual familiarity with at least one data quality framework such as Great Expectations, dbt tests, Soda, Monte Carlo, or Bigeye
• Demonstrated experience leading requirements or discovery conversations with technical and semi-technical data consumers
• Strong written communication, with business-fluent English in both speech and writing

• Prior familiarity with SDW, OIDW, MDW, or SQE, or experience from the same environment
• Experience with SQL Server
• BI tool literacy, especially Power BI
